My Daddy
(Bob Nolan)
Refrain:
I live each moment over to the ending,
Happy to be near him, to hug him and call him my Daddy.
He’ll always be my guiding star for ever
Shining way up yonder in heaven you’ll find him, my Daddy.
Oft’ times I cry when lights are dim
‘Cause deep in my heart I worship him.
In dreams I see him coming up the pathway,
Calling me and mother
And once more I greet him, my Daddy.
Down through the past I come at last where Daddy used to be.
‘Though now he’s gone I carry on with just his memory.
I close my eyes and visualize the days that used to be,
Then off to dreams for there it seems he always waits for me.
Bob Nolan often said his songs were not autobiographical and this one certainly
is not.
His father died in 1948 and Bob wrote this one in time for publication in
"The Songs of the Pioneers Song Folio No. 1" in 1936.
Photocopies of sheet music for this song are available from Calin Coburn, Bob Nolan's grandson.
Email Calin for more details.
