Regalia Although Bob Nolan did wear a variety of shirts with his jeans for the movies, three costumes stand out to make him immediately recognizable.
In most of the Columbia (Charles Starrett) films, he wore a form-fitting wool shirt with a light hat. He wore that same shirt in some of his first Republic (Roy Rogers) films with either a light or a black hat with a chin string. When his part required a dressier costume in the Republic films, he usually wore his black outfit with the white piping plus a white scarf and black hat. Yes, he was responsible for his own costumes. They were not provided by the studio unless he was impersonating The Durango Kid or he was cast as an RCMP officer. Note: He gave Fred Goodwin the brown suede vest and Fred treasures it. Interestingly enough, Bob Nolan wore cowboy gear only in the movies. Off the movie lot you might find him in a snappy well-tailored suit or very casual clothing. As he grew older, he began wearing a gold chain or a shell necklace. |
